Tell me, where have all the flowers gone? 🌻 🌍 Art as a Mirror – and a Warning 🎨

I recently visited the powerful Anselm Kiefer exhibition "Sag mir, wo die Blumen sind" at the Van Gogh and Stedelijk Museums in Amsterdam. One work in particular stopped and overwhelmed me: "The Last Road."
Kiefer’s monumental piece, inspired by a German poem about a greedy farmer whose pursuit of one last harvest leads to ruin, struck a deep chord. It was hard not to see the parallel: today, modern society plays the role of that farmer—pushing nature beyond its limits.
Today, humanity is walking its own “last road” — extracting natural resources, warming the planet, and destabilising ecosystems. The effects are all around us: scorched earth, flooded fields, disrupted weather patterns, endangered livelihoods.
To my opinion, Kiefer’s work doesn’t just portray destruction — it invites reflection and offers a spark of hope. It reminds us that while we’ve caused much of this damage, we also have the power to change course.
In the Anthropocene, humanity is the cause of climate change. Hunanity can offer the solution.
